01 · Current stage
Without a fence, we cannot bring materials onto the land or leave anything there overnight. The site needs 220 metres of fencing and two gates.

02 · What we are building
In 2023, Baia Town Hall generously offered us 3,000 square metres in the village of Panduru, Tulcea County, for free use for 30 years. The land is allocated to the University of Bucharest by a local council decision, 15 kilometres from the Beidaud archaeological microzone and less than an hour from Histria.
The base will consist of 17 container modules arranged in two rows, with a total capacity of 40 beds.
Ten sleeping modules, each with its own bathroom. Three connected modules for the kitchen and dining room. Three connected modules for storage and the workspace where archaeological finds are processed. One separate sanitary module for visitors and school groups coming to the site.
A total of 11 bathrooms, compared with the two available today.
Construction follows a sequence, with each stage making the next one possible.
First come the documentation and building permit, currently in progress. Next, fencing the land: without it, we cannot bring materials onto the site and leave them there. Utilities follow — water, electricity and the septic tank — then the platform supporting the modules. Finally come the modules themselves and their equipment.

The Dinu Theodorescu Archaeology Laboratory is part of the Faculty of History at the University of Bucharest. Research at Histria and Beidaud takes place under permits issued by the Ministry of Culture.
Donations are received by the Cetatea Histria Association, registered in the Register of Nonprofit Entities. The land for the base is allocated to the University of Bucharest for free use for 30 years.
